Sidewalk Egg Frying Day – July 4th

Rumor has it in the hottest days of summer you can actually fry an egg on the sidewalk. Today is July 4th, Independence Day and also Sidewalk Egg Frying Day, so why not give it a try? Here in Florida our temperatures are only set to hit about 90 degrees, unless you add in the humidity and then it’s probably more like 100. I personally have never attempted to fry an egg on the sidewalk and will sacrifice an egg simply out of curiosity. I have a feeling I would have a better chance of frying one on the hood of our black truck. Don’t tell my husband, but I intend to test that theory as well.

Here is a brief instructional video on how to sanitarily fry an egg on the sidewalk:

If you decide to try frying an egg on your sidewalk, or any other outside surface, make sure to share the pictures with us on our Facebook page!  Remember to hop on Facebook after noon to see my pictures of the kids and I experimenting with sidewalk egg frying.

  1. Don’t try cooking an egg on your car. It will ruin the paint!

Also, according to Bill Nye it would take 20 minutes to fry an egg at 130 degrees Fahrenheit.

I was thinking of putting foil down first, otherwise I’d have to wash the truck. But it is happening today. Watch for pictures.
