BOOK REVIEW: Adulthood is a Myth by Sarah Andersen

A Sarah’s Scribbles Collection

I’ve often asked friends and family my age if they feel like adults. I’m 36 and I still don’t feel like an adult. They agreed the feeling was mutual. That feeling is what Sarah Andersen has captured perfectly with her comic/scribbles collection Adulthood is a Myth.

Sarah Andersen is a 22 year old cartoonist and illustrator. She graduated from the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2014 and currently lives in Brooklyn. Her comics are semi-autobiographical and follow the adventures of herself, her friends, and her beloved pets. What makes her comics so great is how relatable they are. I mean just check out the introvert nightmares mentioned below.

Adulthood is a Myth: Nightmares For Introverts

Although the book is listed as being safe for 12 and up, I think it’s most likely to appeal to women ages 18 and up. Girls younger than that may not have the life experience to reflect on and laugh about it the same way. However, if you’ve lost entire weekends watching Netflix in bed, hate how your bra straps are always visible, or feel insecure about your relationships regardless of how long you’ve been together, then this book is definitely for you… to laugh yourself. And laugh you will.

It was a cute, funny, quick read that would make an excellent “pick me up” gift. Adulthood is a Myth can be pre-ordered on amazon and will be out March 8th.

Be sure to check out more of Sarah Andersen’s cartooning and her illustrations as well.
