If you’re a comic book fan, particularly a Marvel one, this is definitely shaping up to be your weekend. Robert Downey, Jr. is back as Tony Stark, suiting up once again to bring the adventures of the armored Avenger to the big screen in Iron Man 3, opening this weekend in theaters. On Saturday, comic book stores across the country will host Free Comic Book Day, celebrating the comic industry and draw in new readers with special events, store signings, and (of course) plenty of free comic books. And if you happen to be a gamer as well, Gazillion Entertainment has a special little treat for you as well. This weekend marks the first Open Beta weekend for its eagerly anticipated free-to-play action MMORPG,Marvel Heroes.
For those of you that might have been out of the loop, Marvel Heroes is an action MMORPG for PC with its feet firmly planted deep within the extensive Marvel Universe. Players take on the role of their favorite Marvel characters, including well-known superstars like Wolverine, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Captain America, as well as some of the lesser known characters such as Squirrel Girl, Rocket Raccoon, Luke Cage, and Nova. Normally, players beginning Marvel Heroes get the choice of starting as Daredevil, Storm, Hawkeye, Thing, or Scarlet Witch for free. To celebrate the release of Iron Man 3 and Free Comic Book Day, this weekend’s open beta will allow player to start as some of the biggest guns the Marvel Universe has to offer: The Avengers. That’s right, players will get to assemble right out of the gate this weekend as Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Hulk, or the star of this weekend’s blockbuster flick, Iron Man.
This first Open Beta weekend kicks off today (May 3rd) at 7:00pm PDT and will continue through until Monday, May 6th at 10:00am PDT. To get started, head over to MarvelHeroes.com and sign up for a free account. Then download and install the client and spend the weekend living out your comic fanboy fantasies, battling the big bads of the Marvel Universe alongside your favorite X-Men, Avengers, and even Heroes for Hire, all while priming yourself for the Marvel Heroes’ official release on June 4th.
