Ark Hunters Unite Once Again for Defiance 2050

Dropping on PC, PS4 and Xbox One
Defiance 2050 Review The Mommy Gamers

On Friday, July 6, Defiance 2050 dropped for Founders and Tuesday, July 10, it launched for all players on PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. For those wondering, Defiance 2050 is the same concept, but with major work done to it and gloriously upgraded to meet all needs with the consoles and PC. Defiance 2050 is a free-to-play third-person shooter in an open world setting.

Trion Worlds first launched Defiance back in 2013 and SyFy had a show based off the same name that aired for three seasons. The show and game were meant to work along one another, switching storylines over and making it much more immersive. Sadly, SyFy canceled the show in 2015, leaving the shooter in the dust by itself.

The story starts us off 20 years after the Arkfall event that left millions of Votans dead, and Earth in an odd tera-formation. This tera-formation has left Earth completely unrecognizable to many. In Defiance 2050 players are dropped in what we call San Francisco.

In this open world setting where solo and with friends are totally acceptable, we move to Arkfall locations to take down bosses, run PvP matches, and find the Ark Core. The Ark Core is a vital piece that we protect from various groups. If it gets into the wrong hands, there is no knowing what could come from Earth. Much of the main story is finding the Ark and protecting those in San Francisco.

Players choose between several classes after the customization of their Ark Hunter. The options provided are Assassin, Guardian, Combat Medic and Assault. Players can also purchase Demolitionist in one of the packs. Along with the classes, there are weapon customizations and enhancements to give your weapon an extra punch. Some of these upgrades can decrease the amount of recoil, and increase fire rate.

    Character customization Defiance 2050

When we start off, the main storyline is carried through with squares that have exclamation marks in them; these show you where to go throughout the story. There are also smaller side missions that you can mark. The red Arkfall on the map is open world bosses that allow you a serious chance at upgraded loot such as weapons, grenades, and shields. Along with the mini-bosses, there are custom PvP matches that one can queue for.

Graphically, this is more of an HD update. And it brings me joy to see Trion Worlds trying to bring new life into a game that so many enjoyed. I enjoy moving around and remembering not only the story within the game but the show as well. While there is no longer a show, it’s not hard to get lost in the Arkfall chasing, Hellbug killing missions and making the Bay Area a safer place.

I will say that while all this has been amazing to binge play Defiance 2050, Trion Worlds has been working diligently to fix the bugs and get servers back online as soon as possible. While there still are Raiders that stick on one spot and hang out till they are dead or fall back 30 feet after a clip has been pushed into their body, I admire the hard work and dedication to get Defiance 2050 up and running smoothly.

    Brie’s overall score? 7/10

Review: We Binged Realm Royale for the First Time

Realm Royale Last Chicken Review The Mommy Gamers

During “New Game Tuesday” on The Mommy Gamers, we played Realm Royale for the first time and it was awesome. It is free on Steam right now and is currently in alpha mode. While we did experience some minor glitches, the overall feel of it was smoother than most at this phase.

Hi-Rez, the makers of Realm Royale, have also made games like Smite. As a mom, Realm Royale feels more kid-friendly, and I say that loosely. If the game chat is off, because cuss words and foul language from other players, it is okay for them to play. Unless you’re still on the fence about guns and such, I do see it being friendlier versus PUBG or Fortnite.

Realm Royale Jump Zepplin Screen Review The Mommy Gamers

Since this was my first time playing, I got World of Warcraft and Overwatch vibes immediately playing the game. In retrospect, it has the same concept of PUBG or Fortnite but has the all the differences in graphics, mechanics, and gameplay.

Graphics are very cartoonistic and let me tell you about that chicken. When you have minimal health, you move into a blue chicken carrying the putrid white flag and looks like it is having a hard day without any caffeine. Not to mention, it won’t stop clucking, so opponents will track you down. It’s better to run and hide the best you can.

One area is called Fungal Forest and gives me Zangarmarsh feels from World of Warcraft with the overgrown mushrooms. Then there is an area that is nothing but swamp marshlands, and it immediately signaled a Zandalari feel, again from World of Warcraft. The overall graphics remind players of WoW or Overwatch, but I see both elements within the game.

Realm Royale 3 The Mommy Gamers Screen Shot

Using the basic keys, A, S, D, W, you move around. Sadly, you do need to use a mouse to move around as the letter keys move your body, not the screen. A few tips, Z mounts a horse; Control crouches. Use I for inventory and tab for the map. Yes, so different. Falling to the ground seems scary and different. It does take an adjustment period, but when you hit the ground, you land in the superhero pose and there is no fall damage.

There are no materials to collect, no llama, no building to save yourself from teams or duos either. Queue all the tears. Realm Royale does share the same color scheme as well as Fortnite; so grey, green, purple and gold. I didn’t see any blue in the several hours that I played. If there is an item you don’t need, you can disenchant them for shards. You can then take those shards to a forge and create one of six items, and queue multiple, non-similar items. Example, I can create a piece of gear and a health or armor potion. The gear piece will take a full minute, while the flask will take a mere 20-30 seconds.

Realm Royale 4 Fungal Forest The Mommy Gamers

Overall, the gameplay does take a minute to get used to; and by a minute, I mean a few games. I will say that while I am skeptical about any game that comes out the mocks Fortnite, I am hesitant to pick up and try. I am glad I did and will probably be picking this one up again. Since the game is still in alpha mode, the battle royale aspect has not even hit the servers yet, amongst other things that are non-clickable. I see the massive potential behind this and am optimistic that this game will be popular for some time.

Rainbow Skies Dives into the RPG Gameplay

    Damion gets into Trouble

Rainbow Skies will be launching on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita on June 26, 2018, in North America and will be launching June 27, 2018, in Europe and Asia. This single player game will retail for $29.99 or €26.99. Shall I mention that this game is also coming from the maker of Rainbow Moon!?

In the game, you play as Damion and it is his final examination as a monster tamer. Along with Damion, you have two other characters that will walk alongside him. Oh yeah! This is an important profession in his hometown, Arka, which is consistently attacked by these said monsters. To pass monster taming school, he must have the skill set. But the twist here is that he fails miserably and goes through a series of unfortunate events that destroys an entire compound filled with monsters. His examiner, Layne, is less than pleased as things take a turn for the worst.

Rainbow Skies is a little different when it comes to set up, but brings something different to the table when it comes to a classic RPG style game. Skills are upgraded with magic books and these books are opened in chests or purchased in stores. These skills are not the same nor does every character learn every skill, so being aware of what you have and when you need to use it is important. Rainbow Skies gameplay takes 30-40 hours; but if you add side quests, gameplay could take up to 100 hours or more.

As you do battles, you learn new skills and gain more hit points or HP. Best yet, there is no traditional game over in this game. The game is set in a vibrant world and has turn-based battles, skills and combo attacks to boot. There is not only the main story, but several side quests to help level and explore the game as well as mini games. Finally, this game has cross-save support on all three PlayStation consoles; play at home, save and take on the road.

Come at Me Summer Steam Sale!

How to Love Your Library and Your Wallet
    Steam Summer Sale 2018

Okay, I will confess, I have always been a gamer and mainly on Xbox consoles over the years. I’ve also picked up a Wii and a Nintendo 3DS within that time. When the PlayStation 4 launched, I picked it up on a dare and love it. But behold! I was introduced to PC by several friends and have been told over the years, that PC is the way to go. Boy, did I doubt them? I never had the most amazing rig, but it ran a few games, World of Warcraft being numero uno in Casa de Haddock. I picked up Guild Wars and played that for some time, moved over to another MMO that I can’t think of since it was a 10-minute hit.

But if we fast forward and save you all from the tragic story of a beloved school and work laptop crashing, I needed a PC. I set myself up with an HP Omen 870-244 rig and purchased the dual monitors via Amazon. Okay, sorry, but I still spared you a long story and the other logistics.

House Flipper The DivisionNow to the focus of this piece. The Summer Steam Sale.  PC gaming has been in my life a mere 6-months if that! Low and behold, the Summer Steam Sale is here, and I have already made some impressive scores.

The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director’s Cut and Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition for a combined total of $4.87. That’s less than five dollars!

Before the sale, I picked up Borderlands and Borderlands 2 elsewhere for a little easier on the wallet but picked up all the DLC content that I missed for a measly couple dollars. Tomb Raider was a favorite upon the launch of the PlayStation 4 and would love to have a chance to play this on PC with graphics as high as this thing will allow. Oh yeah, I paid $3.25 for that.

Summer Steam Sale 2018 Under Ten Dollars
Life is Strange is in there since I would like to try another episodic series. I also grabbed the Bioshock trilogy for a few bucks. Granted I tossed the email with the receipt; it had to of been no more than ten dollars.

Now that I’ve addressed the goodies I have already grabbed in the sale, how about what I hope to grab in the coming weeks, because of video games.

Witcher 3 and the DLC content with it is half price, bringing it to $20. Then there is Dragon Age: Origins for its gorgeous deal of $4.99. Shall I mention all the LEGO games that made a list? Shall I also mention that Elder Scrolls, upon the writing of this article, has also gone on sale for 30-50% off? Since Tomb Raider was on my must play list, it is also on the sale list for 70-89% off their original prices.

I will also mention that the Steam Link, which connects Steam to television is cost effective at this moment and is $2.50 last I heard.

There are so many other great games out there that I am sure we need to pick up and add to our Steam collection. So tell us, what are you eyeballing, or what have you picked up from the Summer Steam Sale? Remember, this sale only goes through until July 5, 2018!

Prediction: Will Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Pass the Test?

I’ve been a fan of the Call of Duty franchise since Modern Warfare, possibly World at War. All I remember is coming home from work, grabbing my baby and laying back on the couch to “relax”, because shooting people in the face in video games was therapeutic. I guess I could say that even now that is still is if everyone has fun.

In all honesty, I’ve lost interest in the franchise and don’t find it as entertaining, but slowly hope that the series will keep growing and go back to those roots. Now I have picked up World War II, but don’t play it as much as the other games, simply because the jumping mechanics that were there previously were too much. They were fun for a while, but just too futuristic in a franchise. Especially when you’re so used to something and have the tables change. You with me?

While it was fun to play on maps, it was more fun and a little entertaining for a minute to play on revitalized maps that look like their predecessor. “I used to camp there, I would snipe here. There was a guy here and I sent a rocket launcher down that way and he got so mad”. Yeah, those memories.

But there was a time when that re-envisioning of maps became too much. Why would I want to pay $50 on map packs and two of the four maps undergo plastic surgery? HA! Have you also noticed that Call of Duty has stepped away from this for some time? This could be the different developers taking over and having control of the content, but does it help sales?

It’s hard for me to compare a game like Modern Warfare or Ghosts and compare it to Black Ops, because they are all from various developers, so contrasting them would be wrong. But, the three installments of Black Ops have been exactly what gamers have wanted for some time. There was a story, there were plot twists, intrigue, and death. There were also epic zombies and genius maps that would send me into a frenzy.

Zombies! Need I say more? This mode is for sure coming back and we sure in the hell can’t wait for this episode series to come back with pieces of a story and multiple waves for us to defeat all of the zombies.

What we do know about Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is that it will not be releasing in November like it has for the last decade, instead it will be releasing October 12th for those of you that are insanely curious. It is also the most popular subseries in the franchise, so we could guess that the fandom wants to see this much sooner than the early November launch.

Sadly, this game could not be on the Xbox 360 and PS3 due to the size and scale of this game. Have not upgraded your console yet? You have a few short months to do so. We have heard that BLOPS4 for finger safety sake will be launching on the PS4, Xbox One, PC and the Switch. Yeah, get excited, because the Switch is new to me and have yet to hear about a Call of Duty game to hit that console.

Of course, I have completely stepped away from the franchise for some time. Who knows, maybe it’s there. I can also confirm that the company that ports games that is familiar with the CoD titles will be porting this one to the Switch and allowing it to be HD rumble and motion control friendly. Lastly, there will be a Battle.net platform for the game which host games like World of Warcraft, Overwatch, and Diablo.

We do know that there will be specialists that have finishing moves. There will be the customization that we all love and want in any game to make it feel like we have some control, and the animations have had a little bit of an update to make them look more clear and crisp.

Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Trailer Shot 2

There are updates that will roll around as the game progresses in time, like the previous installments. There will be new maps, random events that will take place and it also sounds like that mission board that we see in WWII will be coming back and will be renamed. This sounds like it is going to be “callings”. That’s original.

Along with multiplayer and zombies, we won’t have a campaign, if any at all from the sounds of it. But it does sound like there is a battle royale? Is everyone jumping the PUBG or Fortnite train, or is it just me? It sounds like this mode will be called Blackout.

Overall, does Black Ops 4 sound like it would be worth the $60? Possibly. I know this will be an investment that I will be making in the coming weeks. Do you think Black Ops 4 will be better than than the other installments, worse? Let us know!

What Could Be Coming to E3?

    Confirmed and Rumored
    E3 Predictions The Mommy Gamers

There will be an immense lineup, announcements, and products releasing at E3 is a great chance to see what’s coming. We’ve decided to take a sneak peek at currently what is rumored and confirmed, just so we can tantalize those thumbs for what is to come in the gaming world. Also, mark your calendars for E3 on June 12-14, 2018 in Los Angeles. E3 and GameStop typically partner and televise conferences so you can watch, and not tell your boss.

E3 The Mommy Gamers Defiance 2050

    Confirmed:

I loved Defiance, which aired as a SyFy TV show and as a video game on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Well, it was fun while it lasted and people got bored quickly since the game was supposed to tie in with the show and the show only lasted three seasons. Thanks, SyFy. Trion Worlds is bringing Defiance 2050, a reimagined shooter for today’s audience and that should mean that it is coming on PS4 and Xbox One. Maybe even VR? Who knows!

    Confirmed:

The Last of Us is beautiful and just mentioning it doesn’t do the game justice. When I first bought the PlayStation 4, I was so new to Sony, I didn’t know which games to purchase. The Last of Us was recommended and it’s amazing; from the story line to the graphics and mechanics. It truly is a treasure and there is a trailer for The Last of Us 2. My prediction is this will be on the floor to try out, and honestly, I want it now!

    Confirmed:

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is another game that is more than likely going to be on the floor to gamers to test. While I personally lost faith in the franchise after the game went Halo on us all and allowed for wall running and Exo-Suits to drive us all mad, I loved the Black Ops installments. I am hoping to see more of this game in the coming weeks because it is launching this October.

E3 Call of Duty Black Ops 4

    Rumored:

Kingdom Hearts 3, the Final Fantasy Disney crossover that made a huge splash on PlayStation 2, it will be, of course, the third game in the series. While we don’t know an exact release, a hunch is that there could be an announcement at E3 for some time this year. Noting pass release dates, my guess will be holiday 2018.

    Rumored:

Borderlands 3 is rumored, I am ALL over this. I loved Borderlands and Borderlands 2, and have high hopes for the third, or fourth installment, depending on how you look at it. The last installment came out in 2012, so this is so welcome and makes gamers excited at the thought of this. Sadly, this could be a 2019 release according to the fiscal year. Although the fiscal year for 2K goes from April to March, so we could technically hope for a holiday launch. Lastly, there was a thread running around the interwebs that we could see Borderlands 3 teased June 10, just a couple days before E3.

    E3 Borderlands The Mommy Gamers

    Confirmed:

A console favorite for my kids has always been Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare. Sounds like we will be seeing a third installment of the game and rumor is that it will also be on the floor. To those who are into the books, or their kids are, the Garden Warfare Volume 2 will tie in directly with the game. This is a game that makes me feel like a kid in the candy store.

    Rumored:

Animal Crossing has been a favorite and while the website has been getting a complete overhaul, we could potentially be getting some news about a game for the Switch. This is totally presumptuous of us to say, but I think that would totally be cool if they took this update and gave us something along with it.

Other games that we are totally jazzed about include: Bioshock 4, Halo 6, Battlefield, we could be seeing some Fortnite and PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds in there, and Super Smash Bros.

In case you want to check out some of the press conferences this year, E3 and Gamestop team up to make these conferences easy to stream if you are unable to travel to Los Angeles. Press conferences are as follows: EA on June 9 at 11 am. Microsoft June 10 at 1 pm. Bethesda on the 10th at 6:30, Ubisoft June 11 at 1 pm. Please note there are a plethora of press conferences during this event and it is still extremely early to have a full schedule. The Mommy Gamers wants to know what you are most excited about.

Battle Royale: Fortnite vs. PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds

Battle Royale: Fortnite vs. PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds

Time has put these two 100-person survival shooters head-to-head. PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds and Fortnite have gained a multitude of attention and people are debating which one is better than the other. While everyone has their own opinion, we’ve looked into both of these games to look at the pros and cons of each game. Just note it was very hard to stay unbiased in this article, but it was certainly fun researching. Since everyone has a preference to which massive shooter they like, let’s duke it out and figure out which one stands the test of time. You can also shout out in the comments below and tell us your pros and cons or your go-to game!

    MODES

Player Unknown’s BattleGrounds, A.K.A. PUBG, and Fortnite are very much the same, right? You couldn’t be any more wrong. You can pick between solo, duo or squads, but Fortnite kicks it up a notch and adds explosive modes with 2v2 and the newest game mode, 50v50. Now that sounds like an epic time! On the other hand, PUBG adds two different perspectives, first person or third person.

Character customization is also a neat feature that PUBG has which allows you to pick a few different skin colors, hair color, and length along with your wardrobe. Granted, Fortnite has outfits that you can choose from as you level up or purchase in the store. In Fortnite, you are also randomly generated into a male or female each game.

    GRAPHICS

Graphically, Fortnite is very cartoonistic, and the llama piñatas are a party filled with loot. No chocolate though, sorry. Weapons also are featured with various colors to let you know which one is better. Let’s say you have an assault rifle on hand and its green. You come across a boring grey one. Nope, pass. Because that blue or purple, better yet, that orange one is the bee’s knees! The general concept is grey, green, blue, purple and then orange (gold).

PUBG is more worn down, rugged graphics that replicate an apocalyptic world for this setting, which does make sense giving the concept of the game. There are also two maps that I have noticed when playing, which means double the fun. Weapons, ammunition, and gear also glow golden color to show you where they lie. PUBG has a feature in its options button that will show you what is readily available for you to pick up so you can move on to a safe spot if needed.

The circle closes off much the same, but Fortnite is certainly more dramatic with a purple wall that makes you feel claustrophobic when it’s right behind you. PUBG sneaks up on you, and then you feel the air rush out of your lungs, and you attempt to run towards it. Fortnite also has the lines thickened so they are clear to see.

    PRICING

Fortnite’s basic edition is free-to-play for the Battle Royale version of the game. If you want more, the Standard Edition of Fortnite will run you $30. Standard edition includes seven piñata packs and four in-game banner icons. The Deluxe Edition will cost you $60, and you receive a rare starter weapon pack that includes four weapons and a trap, eight heroes’, an exclusive founders pistol on top of 33 piñata packs, 50 vault inventory slots, ten in-game banner icons. Lastly, ten XP boosts for you and another ten to share.

    PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds runs $30.

    PLAYABILITY

Fornite is on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Fortnite is cross-platform play, and it’s great because someone could be on Xbox, a PS4, and someone on PC. There should be no issues matchmaking either! PUBG, on the other hand, has cross-playability on mobile (Android and iPhone), leaving PC and Xbox users to be all alone. The lack of cross playability on PC and Xbox also makes it hard to connect with other players. Rumor is PUBG will be on PS4 in the coming months, but will cross-play be in the works?

    Both recently have gone mobile.

    THE LITTLE THINGS

The party bus on Fortnite does not show how many people have jumped off, PUBG does.

There is no ax for materials in PUBG, where Fortnite, you have an ax for wood, stone, and metal.

If someone is shooting, there is no building a hideout and running or hiding.

In PUBG, red areas show on the map. Those areas are getting bombed, and you will wind up dead.

Fortnite updates much more often the PlayerUnknown’s BattleGrounds.

PUBG uses two different, and good sized, maps and randomly cycles through them. Fortnite only has the one, smaller map.

You can hear people in the lobby before dropping off the plane. When a person launches off, you can’t hear them.

Also, this is a multi-region setup, so you have players from all over the world on the server.

You can’t hear people on Fortnite unless you’re in a party.

You can drive certain vehicles in PUBG.

    END RESULTS

Researching for this article was pretty hard regarding being objective and spending the $30 to play a game that I wasn’t sure that it was going to be worth it. I’m sure everyone has that same feeling when it comes to spending money on a game, and they hope it will be well worth their time. Granted, PUBG is fun and entertaining; there is something different about it, and honestly, it turns me away from the game. I much prefer spending my time with Fortnite and all the crazy Boogie bombs and other shenanigans. Let The Mommy Gamers know what your preference is in the comments

Out of Body Experiences and a Busy Mom Who Requires Wine, and Lots of It

    Hello, Mommy Gamers!

My name is Brittany, or Brie. On gaming platforms, I have some iteration of QueenBrie going on. I’m from the Pacific Northwest, a short jaunt from Olympia, Washington to be exact. I have two boys, 8 and 10, which qualifies me as the mommy part. But I game as well. I’ve been a gamer for most of my life, even as a kid on classic Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Atari and so on. When I started dating my husband, that’s when I became addicted to gaming more in the sense that it was a ritual to get friends together to play Call of Duty, Halo, or Borderlands.

This being my introductory article for The Mommy Gamers, I figured I would give you guys an insight to my life and introduce some of the weird mumbo jumbo that I believe in or am on the border about, and maybe things that really annoy me. Because it’s life and my fingers like to do all the talking.

Whether you believe in the astrology, planets and stars aligning or not, it’s been one hell of a week. Please tell me you’re with me on this one? It’s been one of those weeks where I’m thinking today is Sunday, and Wednesday I was thinking Friday would be the next morning, to only wake up Thursday thinking it would be Saturday. And it isn’t just me. It’s my neighbor, the kids, my co-workers, and everyone else so this has to be a thing, right? I mean, it can be an off week where there is just more wine consumed then normal, but I seem to think that this could be to blame?

    These are some cute kids!

To outline my week, it’s also conference week at my boys’ school, so we’ve had half days all week. Nice, right? Wrong. Monday was pretty lazy and didn’t plan on being called in to work. Tuesday was pure chaos in itself. Sent the boys to school and went in to the doctor for the annual lady visit. Not only was I there on time, but I sat in the doctor’s office till 9:50 when I finally got called back. I sat cold and naked on the table, covered in paper for another 10 minutes. Granted, these visits are typically pretty quick, getting out didn’t happen till about 10:30am. Since I was off, I took the advantage of running more errands and by the time I got home, it was time to get the kids off the bus, moving out to their conferences and then rushing home to make dinner. I went through a bottle of wine Tuesday night. Maybe we should turn this into a drinking game?

Wednesday was pretty simple and nothing too crazy; same with Thursday, although both days did feel off. Friday being payday, I spent time grocery shopping, took the kids to breakfast, vacuumed, dishes and the five loads of laundry that seemed endless, and oh the errands, but I knew had to get done at some point. On top of it, friends were coming over, so I was cooking an Easter Dinner and also went through more wine. By the evening, I realized I hadn’t had wine and I was exhausted.

It was a week where I felt so blah and lazy, parts of it went by fast, others not so fast.

But let me get through the good stuff. Remember that lovely doctor visit on Tuesday? I finally quit being lazy and picked up my prescription. With Obamacare when it was put into place, women should have a reduced cost, or no charge at all for their birth control. Granted, I had three months, she rang me up for $72.99. I grabbed my chest, hoping I had air in them. She took my prescription card and the price was $65.48. What a savings! Granted, I can get a reimbursement for scripts, on a following paycheck, I wanted to cry. Mommies, do you have a similar story?
