Assassin’s Creed III Limited Edition Unboxing

The other night my husband and I picked up Assassin’s Creed III Limited Edition. We were really excited about the Limited Edition mostly because we hadn’t pre-ordered ahead of time and we were amazed we were still able to pick up a copy. That being said, we felt the need to try and entertain with this really bad, unedited unboxing video. Enjoy!

Note: Marcia threatened to disown me if I wore the AC belt buckle, but I still think it’s pretty cool.

Shop Healthier With Fooducate

Woman Food Shopping

Getting fit and healthy can be pretty difficult for someone like me who doesn’t know what to shop for. I barely have enough time to food shop at all. And let’s be honest, stopping to read every label and do research on all the ingredients isn’t going to happen. Kudos to you if you’ve actually been able to master eating healthy. I however still have a long way to go.

But luckily for me there are apps, like Fooducate, available (on Android and iPhone) to make the whole process easier. I actually talked a little bit about Fooducate in Episode 9: Train Wreck.

You can use Fooducate to:

• Automatically scan a product barcode
• See product highlights (both good & bad)
• Compare products
• Select better alternatives
• Dig deeper and learn more about food and nutrition

Features:

• Created by dietitians and concerned parents
• Uses your mobile’s camera to effortlessly scan UPC barcode
• Over 200,000 unique products and growing daily
• Simplified information helps you make better choices
• Works on iPhone, iPod touch, iPad and Android OS version 2.2 and up
“Fooducate is like taking your own personal dietitian to the supermarket.”
Fooducate analyzes information found in each product’s nutrition panel and ingredient list to show you what manufacturers don’t want you to see, such as: high fructose cornsyrup, excessive fats, confusing serving sizes, additives and preservatives and more. It then grades the product on a scale of F-A+ and goes into detail on why it received it’s score. One of the best part of Fooducate is that it’s NOT funded or influenced by food manufacturers. Using it feels a lot like taking great advice from a trusted friend.

Do you use Fooducate or any other app to help with your food shopping?

What Girls Really Look Like While Playing Video Games

Kristine R

I came across this picture on facebook the other day. I lol’d. I thought it made a great point. Apparently so did a lot of other people as it had already been shared 192 times. I started reading the comments and boy was that a mistake! Not only did the majority of males not believe it was the same girl, but well… they were making some pretty asinine comments. The more I read, the more I realized how brilliant the photo was. Guys just didn’t get it.

I decided to track down the photographer and conduct a mini interview. Here’s what Kristine R. had to say about the viral image above:

TMG: Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m a 21 year old living in Florida. I’ve always loved video games and I work at Gamestop full time. My favorite game series is Halo.

TMG: It seems you’ve become incredibly popular lately. Can you tell us a little about how that started?
It all started one night while I was on Xbox Live, some guy asked if I was playing in my lingerie and him and his clan started saying girls don’t care about video games (and of course told me to get back to the kitchen) so I thought, “Hey, why not just show people what girl gamers REALLY look like while we play”.

TMG: What inspired you to take that photo?
Stupidity of others inspired me. And once I did take the photo, Mom could not stop laughing so I knew I had to post it.

TMG: Were you expecting the response you got?
Honestly no. I still can’t believe it. I can’t believe how many people have seen my rage face.

TMG: What were some of the most memorable (Good) comments left on your photo?
I loved how many women can relate to the picture.

TMG: What were some of the most memorable (Bad) comments left on your photo?
“Slut, Whore, Get back to the kitchen, Are you playing Cooking Mama?, I bet she doesn’t even play video games, etc.”

TMG: Do you regret posting that photo? Why or why not?
The only thing I regret is that I didn’t make the font bigger. lol.

TMG: Are there any final thoughts you’d like to leave female gamers with?
Don’t let people get you down. And don’t bash other women gamers. We have to stick together.

TMG: Are there any final thoughts you’d like to leave male gamers with?
MOST men, not all, stop bashing women and making sexest comments. You don’t get on to game to be harassed so don’t do it to women.

So ladies… What does YOUR game face look like? How do you deal with guys being ass hats in game just cause you’re a female? Let us know in the comments below.

Cinema Ninjas Silence Chatty Movie Goers

Cinema Ninja

It’s happened to all of us. We excitedly head to the theater with friends or family to see the latest movie flick. Paying $12 for your ticket (more if you’re taking the kids) doesn’t seem like a problem. Popcorn and soda in hand, you’ve carefully selected your seat. Time to get comfortable and enjoy the show, or so you think. Anxiously you look up to see the lights have turned down and the movie has started. Unfortunately, you’re immediately distracted by the lady on the phone in front of you, arguing with her boyfriend. Is she for real!?!? The truth is, situations like this are almost unavoidable. No matter what movie or theater you go to, there’s a good chance you’ll come across at least one inconsiderate and/or obnoxious movie goer. There’s really not much you can do about it… or is there?

To address this issue, the Prince Charles Cinema in London has recently hired theater ninjas to silence naughty film-goers. Dressed in full-body spandex suits made by “Morphsuits,” theater ninjas hide quietly in corners until they are ready to pounce and correct loud talkers and phone texters. Theater employee Catherine Small tells us a little bit about her ninja experience in the video below.

How long do you think it will take the U.S. to start forming their own ninja clans? Before Breaking Dawn II comes out… I hope.

Loot Crate: Geek and Gamer Swag

I don’t know about you, but I LOVE getting mail! Anything that’s not a bill puts a smile on my face. Postcards, hand written letters, packages I ordered from Amazon, that’s all it takes for me to do the happy dance.

Once upon a time there was a subscription service called The Sampler which sent monthly boxes chock full of handmade goodies. Unfortunately, they’re not around anymore, but I’ve been seeing more and more subscription sites popping up. Just today I read about one called Glossybox which ships cosmetic and perfume samples for $21/month. Then there’s the Dollar Shave Club which will bring shaving razors right to your boyfriends door step. No more ‘I forgot to buy razors’ excuses! However, the geek in me is most excited about Loot Crate.

Loot Crate ships 6-8 epic geek and gamer related items to you every month for $13.37 — see what they did there? More specifically, Looters can expect the best new and emerging companies producing gear, snacks, toys, hardware, art, and other goodies. They even keep the contents a secret until all the boxes have been delivered!

I often miss out on the coolest geeky swag cause I can’t make it to all the events. Now I can have them delivered to my door! There’s even an option (and discount) for paying a full year upfront. Sounds like the perfect birthday or X-mas gift for that special gamer/geek on your life.

Testimonials borrowed from their website:
”Loot Crate did an amazing job of fulfilling on the original promise. Everything in the Crate was epic!”
– Joey B.
”Its like getting a Christmas present from a family member, who understands that you’re a geek, every month.”
– The Ulmet
”Great concept and execution. The items were great and I can’t wait until next month!“
