The Mommy Gamers Podcast Episode 173: Robert’s Special Sauce

The Mommy Gamers Podcast Episode 173 Robert's Special Sauce McDonald's Szechuan Sauce Robert Workman Gaming Mommies Mom Gamer

By now you’ve probably heard at least a little something about the whole Rick and Morty Szechuan Sauce McDonald’s thing. One of our favorite people ever, Robert Workman aka TheDCD, has been a pretty major player in the recent media hype about this coveted sauce…and we loved him before he became sauce famous. Carrie, Marcia, and Robert talk about how Robert’s sauce journey has changed him (just kidding…he’s still the same awesome guy he’s always been) and they talk the usual games, movies, butts, and more.

You can check out Robert Workman and his articles on RetroZap.com, Comicbook.com, and on Twitter @TheDCD

The Mommy Gamers Podcast Episode 172: All the Butts, All the Plugs

The Mommy Gamers Podcast Episode 172 All the Butts, All the Plugs

In Episode 172 of The Mommy Gamers Podcast we do talk a little bit about butts again, and plugs. But not that kind of plug. More of the promote your friends kind of plugs. This week Carrie and Marcia are joined by Mike Robles. In addition to being a Dad and a gamer, Mike writes video game reviews for Marooners’ Rock…and sometimes for The Mommy Gamers.

Mike’s previous work as a community manager for some pretty big games gave he and Carrie a lot to talk about. Everyone talks a lot about the Ghost Recon Ghost War PVP Open Beta, Destiny 2, the Fortnite Battle Royale drama and much more. Butts and plugs aside, this episode is definitely high on our NSFW rating, and thanks to some American Vandal TV show talk, totally not good for the kids to listen to. You’ve been warned. Enjoy!

The Mommy Gamers Podcast Episode 171: Actually NO Butts

The Mommy Gamers Podcast Episode 171: Actually NO Butts

In Episode 171 of The Mommy Gamers Podcast Marcia and Carrie are joined by Jon Hydeman, aka The1Jon. Jon is a freelance game/software tester, a daddy, a huge Destiny fan, and an all around great guy. They chat a LOT about Destiny 2, and also Uncharted Lost Legacy, Conan Exile, and Last Day of June. Also…surprisingly enough, this week we do NOT talk about butts. You’re welcome.

The Mommy Gamers Sock Puppet Podcast

    TheMommyGamersSockPuppetPodcast
For the past year we have been doing a live Twitch stream as we record our weekly podcast episodes.  We then take those videos and pop them onto our YouTube channel so that those of you who might have missed the live stream can still watch along as we record.  Unfortunately the video from Episode 118 was irretrievably broken.  It was a great episode with special guest Patrick Scott Patterson, and definitely one we weren’t happy to lose.  So in an effort to still have some sort of video up for you all to watch, I did what any rational person would do…I made sock puppets and recreated the video.

SockPuppetsThis whole thing took a ridiculous amount of time to create, but ended up being a fun project that I could get the kids involved in.  I also now have sock puppets of Carrie and Desirai that I can use for potential future sock puppet things. Muahahaaa! So if you happened to like the random puppet show, feel free to leave some comments below.  I’m happy to pass along any sock puppet making tips that I learned along the way.

The Mommy Gamers on Gamers Unscripted Episode 39: Doing it in The Dark Zone

    gamersunscripted_bagogames-400x240

Last night I had the pleasure of guest hosting on the Gamers Unscripted Podcast. The name of the podcast is quite literal, as there were no show notes and a fun casual flow. The three main hosts, Mike Mahoney, Sean Evans and Jeremy Lyons (who guest hosted on Episode 75 of The Mommy Gamers) were friendly, entertaining, and clearly very skilled at podcasting. There was a second guest host, Rob Goddard who recently launched a new podcast, The Married Geeks with his wife. I had an absolute blast recording with this crew, even though they spent entirely too much time discussing The Division and “The Dark Zone”, but it’s defintely a show I would suggest you give a chance. I’ve added Episode 39: Doing it in The Dark Zone to this post so that you may listen. Enjoy!

    Live Recording of Episode 114

    Episode 114 Live Stream

When the stars align properly, and there are no sick kids or other random crises, Carrie, Desirai and Marcia huddle around their computers and record a podcast for you all to enjoy.  Over the past few years the goal has been to do this on a weekly basis, and for 2016 we are one hundred percent committed to making that goal.  Much like that New Year’s resolution you made to hit the gym more often, we imagine we will fail at this around mid-February.  But until then keep an eye out on our Facebook page where we will post all the information you need to join us as we record our show.

The shows look something like this.

The shows look something like this.

This particular post that you are currently reading is to inform you that we will be recording Episode 114 on Saturday, January 9th at 9 pm ET.  If you’ve never joined us for a live recording before, you are in for a treat.  Not only do you get to watch us as we do our live streamed video recording of the podcast via Twitch, you also get the pleasure of chatting with others in the chat room as we record…and asking us questions during our live Q & A session.  Sometimes we even have people (usually Robert Workman) who give out codes for games, and other random prizes.   However, even when there are no prizes, simply listening to our show is a prize in itself.

We would highly recommend subscribing to The Mommy Gamers Twitch Channel here: http://www.twitch.tv/themommygamers

Top 10 Most Downloaded Episodes of 2013

Popular Episodes of The Mommy Gamers Podcast

    Top10of2013

So now that we’ve got a hang of this podcast thing, with over a year of podcast episodes under our belt and the new year among us, I’d like to highlight this year’s 10 most downloaded episodes. With that being said, it’s important to also note that “most downloaded” doesn’t necessarily mean “best episode”, cause lets be honest, if that were the case our Vampire Diaries Special would have definitely made the cut.

    10. Episode 49: Intersection of Silly and Intelligent

    Whitney Avalon

Hosts: Marcia Webb, Desirai Labrada, and special guest Whitney Avalon
Synopsis: Whitney Avalon, actor (Big Bang Theory, Days of our Lives, Monday Mornings, Perception), writer, singer and comedienne joins Marcia and Desirai this week. Whitney also starred in a controversial cereal commercial. The ladies discuss how female protagonists are (or are not) displayed in video games, Tropes vs. Women, GenCon highlights, Visions of Gamepocalypse, and just so that the entire podcast didn’t sound incredibly intelligent and interesting…Miley Cyrus twerking at the VMA’s.

*DISCLAIMER: We left in an f-bomb because it was appropriate in context. You’ve been warned.

    9. Episode 52: Still Alive

    Ep52_StillAlive

Hosts: Marcia Webb, Desirai Labrada, and special guests Jake James, and Troy Starrett
Synopsis: After Desirai took some time off to deal with life, the ladies are finally back and ready to kick ass. Great! Go listen!

*DISCLAIMER: We might have said “shit” a crap ton during this podcast. You’ve been warned.

Hosts: Marcia Webb, Desirai Labrada, and special guest Jeff Hanna
Synopsis: Marcia and Desirai are joined by Daddy gamer Jeff Hanna, a veteran in the gaming industry. Jeff’s prior works at EA, Sony and most recently Volition still fail to impress Marcia as much as the fun “weapon” he created for Saint’s Row: The Third. This weapon is also part of the reason for the explicit tag on this episode. The strange trio of gamers discuss some great indie games such as Monaco and Kerbal Space Program, Plants vs Zombies 2 (Finally), and if WOW seems lonelier after losing nearly two million subscribers. Because this is a podcast by parents, for parents, they also discuss micromanaging your children’s lives and what video game ratings mean for different parents. There is more, so very much more, but you will have to listen for the rest.

    5. Episode 37: Cinco De Drinko

    Photoshopped by: Desirai Labrada

This week the ladies discuss the Marvel Heroes open beta, Rift, Free Comic Book Day, Iron Man 3, pissed Starbucks customers and more. They also listen to a few glorious birthday voicemails. Don’t miss out!

Hosts: Marcia Webb, Desirai Labrada, and special guest Bonny Paz
Synopsis: This week the ladies are joined by mommy gamer and industry veteran Bonny Paz. They talk about Duck Tales, Disney Infinity, Ingress, GTA V, Cortana to compete with Siri, World War Z, the new Sleepy Hollow tv show, an update on Desirai’s detox and more. Tune in for some good talk and great laughs.

    3. Episode 39: Hanging With MightyMeCreative

    Ep39_MightyMeCreative

Hosts: Marcia Webb, Desirai Labrada, and special guest MightyMeCreative
Synopsis: The Mommy Gamers are joined by MightyMeCreative, aka MMC, a Kinect Game Play Dancer, Fashion Product Designer and mother to an adorable 7-month-old baby boy. With over 10 million views on her YouTube page, we decided to pick her brain about how to make a great video. Marcia and Desirai are really excited about the fall TV show lineup, but not as excited about the new trend of dressing homeless people in Abercrombie & Fitch clothing. With summer vacations coming up the ladies discuss their thoughts on the moral aspects of paying handicapped people to get you to the front of the lines at theme parks, and how “Pinterest Stress” is affecting many women.

    2. Episode 47: JoCo Crazy

    Ep47_Jonathan_Coulton

Hosts: Marcia Webb, Desirai Labrada, and special guest Jonathan Coulton
Synopsis: Marcia and Desirai interview Jonathan Coulton, singer, song-writer (Still Alive for Portal), Daddy gamer, house musician for the NPR game show Ask Me Another…the list goes on and on. Special thanks to our amazing listeners for coming up with great questions such as: Would Jonathan ever consider doing another “Thing a Week”, what’s it like to be on a JoCo Cruise, and did any legal action arise from his song Tom Cruise Crazy? Tune in for conversations about the joys of being a gamer and passing the love of gaming on to the next generation.

Synopsis: Elaine took the week off so that Desirai and Marcia could chat with Susan Wilson, an amazing mother of three who is helping her nine year old daughter raise money to create her very own RPG! Susan shares her experiences, both the good and the bad, and is finally able to speak out about some of the controversy surrounding this Kickstarter, and how this project has led to the creation of PinkieSquare.com, a website that encourages and supports children who want to create their own indie games.

The ladies also discuss less serious matters, such as a study about which console players are better in bed, EA being voted the worst company in America for the second year in a row and what’s coming up this week with the new video game/TV show Defiance.
