Performing hits by One Direction, Maroon 5, Carly Rae Jepson and more!

Twentieth Century Fox Consumer Products and Iconic Entertainment Studios announced that ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS: LIVE ON STAGE!, a brand new, music-filled interactive live show, will take the stage, touring 50+ cities nationwide for a total of 80 shows, beginning on October 5th in Toronto, Canada. The chipmunk trio is being accompanied by the Chipettes and will delight fans of all ages with LIVE performances featuring world-class production, music, special effects, and immersive interactivity to encourage audience participation.

Based on the characters from the hit Twentieth Century Fox movies, the show will bring the music and excitement of a live rock concert to life as the Chipmunks perform hits by One Direction, Maroon 5, Carly Rae Jepson, Elvis Presley and more! Join the Chipmunks on a wild musical journey singing and dancing their way across America. With the Chipettes as their opening act, Alvin and the gang plan a big charity concert to save Woodstock. There’s plenty of excitement and laughs along the way as they kick it old school at a break-dancing competition in Chicago, shake rattle and roll at an Elvis convention in Las Vegas and kick up their boots at a hoe down in Nashville. Chipmunk fans of all ages (that includes me!) will experience the laughs, music and adventure LIVE on stage!

I watched the TV show regularly as a kid. Theodore was my favorite. Is it weird that I really want to go to this? There’s a tour date in Jacksonville. How do I convince Marcia to make this a (The) Mommy Gamers family event? Leave some suggestions in the comments.

Harmonix’s Chroma: The power of music explodes in this upcoming shooter

We here at The Mommy Gamers are totally stoked about Harmonix’s recent announcement of Chroma, a free-to-play, music-driven, multiplayer shooter for PCs. The company known for Dance Central and the Rock Band games is throwing its hat into the first-person shooter ring, and is currently taking applications for a closed alpha test set to open within the month.

Harmonix has partnered with Hidden Path Entertainment (which created Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Defense Grid: The Awakening) to develop the game, which will be powered by the Unreal engine. reports that the game is being developed on Valve’s Steam Early Access and should be publicly playable by this fall.

According to a press release put out by Harmonix, the game features music-driven FPS gameplay, in which the music matters and the game’s soundtrack is tied directly to combat, traversal, and other shooter mechanics. Music makes up a player’s arsenal, and gamers will be able to choose a weapon load-out that reflects their own musical and personal styles – whether that means pounding bass, metal guitar riffs or poppy synth. Multiple character classes are available, as well as “change ups” at major musical moments that will alter the landscape in real-time. Harmonix claims that though the game will be free-to-play, it’ll be done in a deeply customizable, intelligent way so gamers won’t be frustrated by the unfairness of it all.

The official word is that Chroma will be available on PC and via Steam “in 2014,” which covers a rather large time frame.
